  • Stockholm Central, sketch drawings (1996)

    Sergels torg by J. Moraga

There were times when I didn’t have a stable job. I used to take whatever assignment came through a phone call each morning from the labor pool. I worked in many restaurants around Stockholm and beyond.

After a few years in the restaurant business—including a longer period at an Asian hotel—I began to feel that my career in hospitality was coming to a close. I must have prepared countless meals, washed over a million dishes, and spoken with hundreds of people.

One day I felt like sketching the area around Kulturhuset and SEB Bank, where I worked until the end of 1999. I found three of those drawings again, and I’m sharing some here.

Two of them are in A3 format and include small suggestions for possible urban improvements—ideas that may be noticed in the details upon close inspection.

I still wonder if the pizzeria I once drew kept that sketch—or if the pizzeria even exists anymore.
